It is with a heavy heart we share that our dear, Penelope (Penny) Ann Muir (nee McKay), passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on February 23rd, 2023 at the age of 79. Wife for 57 years of David Muir. Cherished mother of Robert Muir, Heather Muir, Laura Leuschner and Sandra Floyd. Beloved mother-in-law to Teija, Kurt, Kevin, Andrew and soon to be Rosalind. And her most famous and prized role of adored Grandma to Daniel (Michelle), Denya, Spencer, Adam, Brock, Claire, Jane and Anna.  Predeceased by her parents Doris and Robert McKay.

Penny was a lover of travel, a good murder mystery, and of course happy hour. Born and raised in Ottawa, Penny spent much of her young life being raised by her grandparents, growing up in Rockcliffe Park and attending Lisgar High School. It is through her grandparents cottage on Lac Bernard that she met David at a clubhouse dance. Dave and Penny went on to purchase land on Lac Bernard in 1968 and built a family cottage that welcomed and housed their children, in-laws, grandchildren and grandchildren in-laws, often all at once to create cherished lifetime memories. Dave and Penny adventured the world together, sailing boats with friends among the Virgin Islands, venturing to South America, the South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand in retirement and wintering in their beloved Aruba. As we mourn the loss of the matriarch of our family, we thank everyone for their support, visits and kind words during this time.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10AM. Interment and reception to follow. For those not able to attend Penny's Service in person, you may register for the Livestreaming at the following Livestream Link

Until then, wear a little orange and raise a glass to celebrate the life of our Penny.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Queensway Carleton Hospital for cancer care.

My sincere condolences to the entire family. I have fond childhood memories of summer days at the Muir cottage, Penny greeting me from her spot on the red couch as i appeared almost daily in her kitchen to receive one of her famous (to me) peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Calling the cottage line and chatting with Penny as she called across the property for Sandra. Cutting over after dinner to join the always full, always vibrant, Muir table for a drink and many laughs. Hanging by the outdoor fire with a handful or two of the kids and grandkids - Penny was always at the centre of it all, smiling wide and soaking up quality time with her beloved family. Ch. Wiiskéjak won't be the same without the woman who named it. We will miss you Penny.

So many years, so many memories, from the early days playing cards on Meadowlands and Monterey to the countless Lake Bernard get togethers sharing laughs and fun. Penny was always happy and pointing out " When you least expect, expect it." BJ will remember the conversations shared at coffee time visits to each other's cottage. We will miss you Penny!
