It is with great sadness that the family of Elaine Cheney announce her peaceful passing at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on January 11, 2023 at the age of 76, surrounded by her husband and sons.  Predeceased by her mother Selina Smith (nee Browne) and father Robert Smith.  Beloved wife of Paul Cheney for 52 years. Cherished mother of Blake (Sandra) and Jason (Nuria). Much loved grandma of Curtis, Ella and Fiona. Elaine will be missed by her sister Christine (Colin), by her nephew Adam (Joanne), other members of the Cheney clan with whom she has shared many of life’s milestones, Peter (Corinne) and their children Glenn (Amanda), Wayne (Elaine) and Yolande (Dan), as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Ottawa General Hospital and Queensway Carleton Hospital for their compassionate care and assistance, as well to Bayshore Healthcare and Community Palliative Medicine Associates for supporting Elaine in remaining at home as she bravely faced her cancer journey.

Family invite visitors to a reception on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue with interment to follow.

Dear Paul and family, We find this poem a great help.
Death is nothing at all
it does not count,
I have only slipped into the next room.
We will be thinking of you Thursday with our candles alight.
much love from afar.

Dear Paul and Family

No words Paul can express the loss of someone you spent virtually your entire life with. So many memories that will never fade away with the passage of time and hope will bring you some comfort in the days and weeks and years ahead.

Highland Park Lawn Bowling Club is like a second family and your loss is our loss. You and Elaine took up lawn bowling and became very good and were an integral part of the club always ready and willing to lend a helping hand when asked. That is what I call Family.

To you Paul and the entire family my sincere sympathy on your loss.
