We are very sad to announce that Andrea Joan Bérubé (née Buck) of Orleans, Ontario, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2022, at the age of 76.
Born into a military family on April 25, 1946, Andrea is survived by her husband Jacques Bérubé, her daughter Leslie Way (Michel Rochette), her son Robert Bérubé (Karine Lachapelle), and three adored grandchildren: Sabrina Way, Samuel Bérubé and Véronique Bérubé. Andrea is predeceased by her parents Ronald and Jean Buck and her sister Karen Buck. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Deborah Rathburn (Richard) and her brothers Kevin Buck (Anne) and Keith Buck (Donna), along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Andrea will be remembered as a very strong person and a loyal military spouse whose intelligence, independence and resilience sustained her in managing her family through more than 20 moves across Canada and Europe. Easily adapting to each new environment and local culture, Andrea integrated many of these traditions into her family life. Embracing military life, Andrea often acted as a leader for her peers through spouse associations and performed charitable work on various bases. Once settled in Ottawa in the early nineties, Andrea pursued successful careers in travel and real estate, benefitting from her lifelong travelling and moving experiences.
Andrea was a loving wife, a devoted mother and adoring grandmother whose unfailing support and love for her family were unquestionable. Her acerbic wit, strong personality and unique sense of humour was greatly appreciated by family and friends. Andrea lived life on her own terms and was not easily dissuaded from any position she held. The anchor of her family, Andrea was a pillar of support to those she loved. In life, as in passing, Andrea lived by the words of her favourite song, “Non, je ne regrette rien”.
A private internment will take place at the National Military Cemetery and a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Many thanks to the staff at Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Lupus Canada https://www.lupuscanada.org/get-involved/ways-to-donate/donation-page/

I found a poem from Andrea, dated 1960. We were classmates in southern Ontario. Later our military spouses were overseas and found we were living in the same block we met again in Ottawa in 1993 Andrea helped us purchase our last Ontario home. We had visited each other’s homes, talked about our families and grown children. As I was searching my autograph book for old school mates from 1960 I found that Andrea had passed. She was a kind and precious friend. I have many memories I’d love to share with your family.
