Dr. Arnold (Arnie) Newton died suddenly at home on September 19, 2022 leaving behind his wife of 50 years, Marie Newton (Anderson).  Arnie was the proud father of Dr. Jennifer Charbonneau (Stephane), Dr. Allison Newton-Moore (Janine), Mark Newton (Ali), and Adam Newton (Lindsay).  Loving grandfather to Matthew, Madeleine, and Luc Charbonneau;  Caleb and Lachlan Moore;  Georgia and Beckett Newton;  and Gwen and Lucy Newton.

Arnie is survived by his brother Lionel Newton (Petra), and sister Rochelle Dennis (Paul).  He will be missed by his nieces and nephews and large extended family.

Arnie graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1973 as a Doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He practiced for 30 years at York County Hospital (now The Southlake Medical Centre) and then moved to Ottawa where he continued to practice medicine right to the end.

Arnie was proud of his family and passionate about medicine.  He loved chatting with patients and friends, telling a good story or joke, and adored his dogs.  His jovial nature and playful sense of humour will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:30am, followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southlake Medical Centre and The Ottawa Heart Institute.

Our thoughts go out to Marie and family. We have fond memories of a cheerful, incredibly hard-working, immensely sociable colleague. Arnie was the chief who warmly welcomed us to Newmarket years ago. He facilitated the growth of our family, as he did with so many others, in so many ways. There will always be a special place for Arnie in our hearts.

Sending hugs from France, along with many great memories of childhood halloweens, card games and games of pool, and big family dinners.

Very sorry to hear this news. Arnie was a great guy, great sense of humour, so dedicated to his patients. He gave me a Christmas baseball cap with Ho Ho Ho on it that I still wear.. sadly now in ( happy) memory of Arnie

My condolences to Dr. Newton's family. Dr. Newton was greatly appreciated by colleagues and patients, providing great obstetrical care at the Birth Unit, The Ottawa Hospital. May you rest in peace Arnie...

My sister Joanne and I had many years of working with Arnie.
He was always happy, jovial and full
of energy.
He was an excellent doctor who had a special relationship with his patients.
We still remember the visit we had in Ottawa with Marie and Arnie in September 2013 when they kindly invited us to stay and showed us Ottawa.
He was always ready to talk about his family whom he loved dearly.
I reminded about the (late) Queen’s comment about loss: “Grief is the price we pay for love “
Our condolences to Marie and the rest of Arnie ‘s family

Our heartfelt condolences to Marie, children and the rest of Arnie ‘s family.
We both worked many hours with him at York County Hospital (now SRHC) in Newmarket.
He was always a pleasure to work with, not only because he was an excellent surgeon but because of his jovial personality.
He kindly invited us to Ottawa in September 2013 and we spent a lovely few days with he and Marie.
Sadly, that was the last time we saw him.
He was a great family man who loved his family deeply.
Our condolences to Marie and family.
You will have many memories to help you in this time of mourning.

Arnie was the hardest working guy I ever knew. I would leave my evening office and they would still be lined up in the hall of York Professional Building for their prenatal visits, ordering pizza. His patients loved him, and I chose him to look after my family members as I knew they would be well looked after. He always hoped that one of the babies he delivered would be named after him, and I would say "Who is going to name their baby Arnold?" I hope that after a lifetime of looking after others he took a few years to look after himself. If anybody earned it, it was Arnie.

Arnie was a well-loved and admired classmate for all of us in the Medical Class of 1973. I am very sad to have us lose him.

Dear Marie and family,
My heartfelt condolences on the sudden passing of Arnie. Myself and everyone on my team at TD always enjoyed our conversations with Arnie over the many years together. He always made us laugh and made our days complete. We thoroughly enjoyed his sense of humour, his kindness and genuine care when he asked about us and our families. We are all so very shocked and sad at his sudden passing, and he will always hold a special place in our hearts and minds. I hope all of the wonderful memories of your life together, will give you much comfort at this very difficult time. May he rest in eternal peace and happiness.
