It is with profound sadness that the family of RCMP Superintendent (ret'd) Douglas "Doug" Gordon Simpson announce his passing on May 11, 2022, at the age of 83 years.
Lovingly remembered and missed by his wife and partner of 60 years, Lorna (Ormerod). Very much loved and proud father and grandfather of his children and grandchildren: Scott (Cindy) and Lori (Geoff); and granddaughters, Emma, Jillian, and Justine.
Doug is predeceased by his parents Everard and Ivy Simpson as well as his sister Janet Downer of Hamilton, Ontario.
Doug joined the RCMP at the age of 18 and served for 42 years living in Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and British Columbia before coming to Ottawa in 1980. Doug threw himself into every activity he took on, Scouting (jamborees), marathon walking (dozens of races), marshalling at the Royal Ottawa Golf Course and especially his church. While Doug had many passions, none were more important to him than his commitment to his wife, children, granddaughters, and his four-legged friend Sidney.
Doug’s life and his presence touched many lives. He was a wonderful man full of kindness and generosity to all who knew him. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
The family would like to thank the supportive health team at the Queensway Carleton hospital for all their kindness during his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Timothy’s Presbyterian Church on Monday May 30, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. 2400 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, ON.
In memory of Doug and in lieu of flowers, donations to one of Doug’s favourite charities, the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated.

Both Anne and I were beneficiaries of Doug's friendship and support from our arrival in Ottawa in '83 and still regular phone calls until late April. With our sorrow we send deepest sympathy to Lorna, Scott and Lori.

Worked with Doug many years at the RCMP's Informatics HQ and, in many ways, he was my mentor. I remember his wisdom, especially when explaining to me, a civilian member, how I must always consider that 'regs' weren't 'nerds' and to develop usable systems. A wise man.

My deepest condolences to Lorna and family. I worked with Doug at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club as Player Assistants (Marshall's & Greeters). Doug was kind and compassionate. He was highly thought of at the Club and it was a pleasure to have worked with him. RIP my friend.

I treasure knowing Doug. He was a true blessing and a special gift to all who knew him.
He was one of the first people I communicated with prior to my arrival to St. Timothy’s & he continued to be always supportive and encouraging.
He loved to serve the Lord faithfully by volunteering his time and talents at St. Timothy’s till the very last day of his life. His sickness and poor physical condition did not stop him from participating in meetings and worship services. He was faithful until the very end.
You will be missed my friend.

Sometimes you meet a person and you just click—you’re comfortable with them, like you’ve known them your whole life, and you don’t have to pretend to be anyone or anything. Each week we would raise our glasses - toast each other - and then sort the world's problems. I will miss you dearly my friend.

We first met Lorna and Doug in 2000. We move in next door on Settlers Ridge. Doug and Lorna
greeted us when we moved in. And it was like we had been friends for years. They just grew on us when ever we need it them.
We had some real deep conversations. That is how Doug was a very caring person. If you needed help Lorna and Doug were there for us. We will meet again in GLORY. Our love to Lorna at this time and prayers. Cecile and Larry Bedard

The Simpson - Robinson family friendship goes back to the very beginning of our respective marriages. What wonderful memories! And now, what sorrow we share!
