Died peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Sunday, February 6th, 2022, at the age of 96. Beloved husband of the late Nadir Nasrallah (née De Almeida Lara). Loving father of Ron Nasrallah (Christianne Potvin), Leila Nasrallah (Ricardo Vidale) and Eli Nasrallah. Cherished grandfather of Lee Spurgeon and Marlo Nasrallah. Son of the late Elias and late Mariam Nasrallah. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Nadwa (late Elias Moussa Nassrallah), Badourah (late George Ayoub), Afifi (late Joseph Jamal), Michael (late Najla) and Afif (Nazek).
Daher was born in a small farming village in Kfarmechky, Lebanon, during the Great Druze Revolt. He would move to Brazil at the age of 18, where he met the love of his life. They would live there for nine years. With wife and son in tow, he bravely moved them to Canada, with $300 in his pocket. From that point on, he never looked back. He was a loving husband and doting father to his kids. Everything he did was unselfishly for his family. His dry sense of humour and quick wit were enjoyed by all who met him, much to his wife’s chagrin. His favourite prank was to ask for $100 from the bank tellers in the form of six $20s. Despite having no formal education, growing up on a farm, he spoke, read and wrote in three languages, and helped his kids with their math homework. Having owned and worked in restaurants his entire adult life, he was an amazing cook and often boasted about his famous club sandwiches. Often when serving one he’d remark “it’s my first time”. Upon the birth of his grandson, at age 74, he quit smoking in the hope that he could live longer and see him grow up.
Daher will be dearly missed by many extended family members and friends. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). In keeping with Daher’s wishes, a private family gathering with interment at Beechwood Cemetery has taken place. I still remember as a child going to Sunday lunches at the Nasrallah house, which resembled a restaurant buffet more than a family lunch. Despite working in a restaurant, he spent his day off cooking a feast for his family. Leila and I bonded over having 1st generation immigrant parents and would often laugh about our fathers' struggles with English. My father's favourite show was "Husky and Starch", while Leila's father lamented the evils of the "abomic tomb". Rest in peace.
