RCMP National Memorial Cemetery Main Monument

Originally installed and unveiling in 2004, the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery Main Monument is the central feature of the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood.

The main monument has a significant in shape, emulates the Chapel at Depot Division, Regina.

Originally constructed as a mess hall in 1883, and converted to a chapel in 1895, the RCMP Chapel, located at "Depot" Division in Regina is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Regina became the headquarters of the North West Mounted Police (NWMP) in 1882. Although the headquarters were moved to Ottawa in 1919, the training of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) continues in Regina at the RCMP Academy "Depot" Division. Visitors to the RCMP Heritage Centre are encouraged to take the driving tour which includes the RCMP Chapel and other historically significant sites at "Depot" Division.

 

This imposing feature embodies the strengths of the Force, with the badge carved in black. Its two sides are flanked by two uniformed members, a bugler and a member standing vigil. The back of the monument proudly displays the most iconic of RCMP symbols — the Horse and Rider.
