In The Gardens: Bennett’s Fastigiate White Pine
Bennett’s Fastigiate White Pine is a dwarf variety with many appealing attributes. Branches aim skyward, so trees stay narrow and make a valuable contribution to tight spots that need a big presence with a small footprint.
Its bluish-green needles will hold their color throughout the entire year and is tolerant of snowy winters. Easily grown in acidic, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun. Prefers fertile soils and cool, humid climates.
It reaches full growth within 10 years at a maximum height of 7' tall x 2.5' wide. This white pine can attract birds and also is pest tolerant to small animals like rabbits.
Beechwood has planted a row of Bennett’s Fastigiate White Pine at the back of Section 64.
