Celebrate Earth Day by Supporting the Restoration of the Macoun Marsh!
Today, as we celebrate the beauty and wonder of our planet, we are reaching out to you on behalf of the Beechwood Cemetery Foundation with an urgent appeal to protect and restore one of our community's most precious natural treasures.
Beechwood Cemetery's Macoun Marsh is a sanctuary for biodiversity—a thriving ecosystem that supports over 1,300 species, including foxes, salamanders, blue herons, and more. However, in recent years, this vital habitat has faced challenges, including low water levels, invasive plants, and habitat degradation.
That's why we've launched the Sustainability of Urban Macoun Marsh Environmental Restoration (SUMMER) program—an ambitious initiative to revitalize Macoun Marsh and ensure its long-term health and sustainability.
Our SUMMER program focuses on several key objectives, including:
- Excavating cattail beds to open up space for native plants and wildlife.
- Installing wood structures to enhance habitat diversity.
- Deepening pool habitats within the wetland.
- Removing invasive shrubs and replanting shorelines with native vegetation.
But we can't do it alone. We need your support to make our vision a reality.
Your donation to Beechwood's SUMMER project will directly contribute to the restoration and preservation of Macoun Marsh, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy its beauty and biodiversity.
