With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Carol Bowles, at the age of 85, in her home in Russell, Ontario. Carol’s cherished husband, Major Karl Bowles, must now navigate life without his devoted partner. A loving mother to Robin (Jean) and Kim (Kevin), she gave them her unwavering support, wisdom, and love. Her grandchildren—Jeff (Kali), Rick (Trish), and Lindsay (Justin)—will miss her deeply, as they carry with them the warmth, pride, and boundless affection she always offered. Her great-grandchildren, Lawson, Nixon, and Odessa, will grow up hearing the beautiful stories of her life, keeping her spirit alive in their hearts.

Carol was a treasured sister-in-law to Lindsay (Phyllis, deceased), Curt, David (deceased), and Susan. To her nieces and nephews—Steven, Greg, Peter, Cindy, David (deceased), and Tammy—she was a constant source of love and kindness. And a great-aunt to Matthias, Nathaniel, Cecila, James, John Paul, Diana, Emily, Miguel, Gabby, and Hunter.

Carol was a deeply loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She was an artist, a Grand Master bridge player, and so much more to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her life was a tapestry of experiences and accomplishments, each one woven with love and joy, leaving an unforgettable impact on the hearts she touched.

Carol lived a full and wonderful life, often reflecting on how truly blessed she felt for the adventures and memories shared with family and friends. At the age of 18, in an act of rebellion, she joined the military—a decision that would change her life forever. It was there that she met the love of her life, Karl, and they married in 1959. Together, Carol and Karl traveled the world, touching the lives of all who crossed their path with kindness, laughter, and warmth. In retirement, they spent many winters in Portugal before finding a second home in Florida, where they continued to build cherished memories together.

A private Memorial Service will be held at Beechwood in Ottawa for family and a small group of close friends.  Following the burial, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Russell Legion, Branch 372, (24 Legion Lane) on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025 from 2 pm to 5 pm. All who knew her are welcome to attend. In honour of my mom, we kindly ask that guests refrain from wearing all black or other dark, somber colours. Instead, please consider wearing bright, vibrant colours to reflect the light and joy she brought into our lives.

Our condolences to Karl and family. Although I only knew Carol a short time having connected with her at the Russell 55+ Club. I enjoyed having lunch with her and she was always up for exercise class and Nia. We will miss you. Rest in Peace Carol.
