It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bernadette Bernard (née Boulet), who passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at the age of 76, with her husband and daughter by her side. After a courageous two-week battle at hospice with acute leukemia, she left this world surrounded by love.

Bernadette was the beloved wife of Jean Bernard, loving mother to Christine Gaudet, and devoted grandmother to Maxime and Chloe Gaudet. She is predeceased by her cherished son Stéphane Bernard; her parents Jacques and Elvina Boulet; and her brother Denis Boulet.

She leaves behind her husband Jean; her daughter Christine; her grandchildren Maxime and Chloe; her sisters Denyse Boulet and Patricia Boulet; her brother Jacques Boulet and sister-in-law Jean Harris Boulet; and her brother-in-law Philip Wort, along with extended family and many dear friends.

Bernadette dedicated her life to caring for others. A proud nurse by profession, she held the position of Staff Health Nurse at the Campbellton Psychiatric Hospital, where she was responsible for the health and wellbeing of over 200 employees. She also authored two training manuals for nurses, leaving a lasting mark on the profession she loved.

Outside of work, Bernadette enjoyed needlework, travelling, and especially treasured time spent with her husband. She was a true social butterfly—vibrant, outspoken, and full of life. Nursing was not just a job for her, it was a calling that matched her deep love and unwavering desire to help others.

She was bold, authentic, and deeply proud of her children and grandchildren, her greatest accomplishment and source of joy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 9th at 1:00 PM at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa. Flowers are welcomed, or donations may be made in Bernadette’s memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada (MS Canada).

Her strength, compassion, and radiant spirit will be missed beyond words, but will live on in all who loved her.

Marcelle, dear friend of Christine’s

Christine, Sending you my deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. Rejoice in knowing that you gave all that you could as she faced this last chapter. You were a great advocate and brought her moments of solace as she made her way to God in heaven, as she was greeted by your precious brother and your beloved husband.

To Maxime and Chloé, Accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your maternal grandmother. My heart aches for the losses you have suffered in the last years. In reading the description of your grandmother, I could see some of her characteristics in both of you: you are both bold and authentic and in this way, she has gifted you a part of herself. Bless you both.
