Anita Louise Springer of Ottawa, Ontario passed away peacefully at 87 years of age on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Beacon Heights Retirement Residence. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, to the late William and Louisa (Miles) Brown, she was the devoted wife of David for 61 years. Anita was the beloved mother to son, David (Daina), and daughter, Anne (Terry).
Anita was the most loving and caring Nana. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Kyra (Eli), Kyle, Jordan (Madison), and their mom, Barbara, as well as Nicholas (Alexzandria) and Sarah (Andrew). Anita was fortunate and happy to meet her great-granddaughter, Stella, this past year. She is survived by brothers Billy (Debbie), Ricky (Bev) and sisters Marie (Mike), Sheila (Blair) and Minette (Keith). Anita was pre-deceased by her loving husband as well as her sisters Valerie and Shirley.
Anita worked at Dartmouth City Hall until she started her family with Dave. She loved nothing more than keeping her house, raising her children and running a tight ship at home as a Navy wife. In her 40s, Anita went back to high school and graduated in front of her teenagers at the same school they were attending in Trenton, Ontario. A posting to Ottawa saw her going back to work at the CFB Rockcliffe Credit Union. Her final occupation was in the civil service working for DND at CFB Rockcliffe. Everyone on base knew of her sweet tooth and to go to Anita’s office for the ever-present candy on her desk. Throughout the years she volunteered her time to many organizations and finally retired at the age of 60.
Anita always maintained to be a true and proud Cape Bretoner. Her social, outgoing personality lit up any room she entered. Her favourite way to spend time in her golden years was spoiling her grandchildren at home and at the cottage.
Her memory will be forever treasured by her family, who give thanks for her kindness and generosity. She was always thinking of her family, showing them care and everlasting love.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Beechwood Funeral Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa.
Visitation will take place at Beechwood Funeral Home on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 from 1-3pm. Internment will follow with only family present.
Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
