Join Us for the Dutch Remembrance Ceremony on May 4, 2025

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Canada in partnership with Beechwood Cemetery, invites you to commemorate Dutch Remembrance Day with a day of reflection, unity, and remembrance.

Event Highlights

  • 11:30 PM – Freedom Meal (Section 27)  - Join us under the tent for a Freedom Meal. We will be inviting the Girl Guiders from across Ottawa to write reflections on tulip-shaped cards to honour fallen soldiers. These heartfelt messages will be placed at the graves as a tribute to their sacrifice.
  • 1:15 PM – Guided Tour - Explore the National Military Cemetery with a focus on Dutch-Canadian connections and the shared history of World War II.
  • 1:45 PM – Remembrance Ceremony (Main Monument) -  A solemn ceremony honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom/
  • 2:30 PM – Coffee and Tea Reception (Section 27) -  Conclude the day with light refreshments, Dutch pastries, and the opportunity to connect with fellow participants.

Dutch Remembrance Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made for peace and freedom. Freedom Meals are a cherished tradition that symbolizes unity, democracy, and gratitude for those who fought to protect these values.
