With heavy heart, we announce the peaceful passing, at home, of Edouard (Ed) Lafontaine, at the age of 96. He leaves behind his wife, Marguerite (Margo) Laflamme, a daughter, Nicole, a son Marc (Maryse), a grandson Xavier (Amelie) and a granddaughter Alexya. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, Lyse (Lester), Michelle (Greg), Charlynne, Patrice (Helen) and Stephan (Claudie).

Ed was born in Ottawa and pursued an early interest in flying, which led him to obtain a pilot license. He bought a Tiger Moth airplane which he enjoyed flying over Ottawa, surrounding areas and lakes.

He became an airline pilot for Quebecair. He flew many northern routes including the artic (DEW line). He then joined the Department of Transport (Civil Aviation) until he retired. He always maintained a keen interest in aviation.

Ed was a man of quiet disposition. He truly enjoyed nature, cottage life, boating, barbequing and being in the sun. He enjoyed many years as a snowbird in Florida.

He was an avid collector of WWI and WWII rifles and binoculars. He really enjoyed taking them apart and putting them back together again, in a much better condition. He possessed an impressive collection.

Ed was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to music.

He enjoyed condo living and hosted and participated in many social activities.

Ed always had many interests and was a pleasure to be with.

He was a good man.

All are invited to a reception in his honour on March 20, 11:30 to 1:30 at the Beechwood cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Ed was a great lover of animals, so, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated.

Ed was a wonderful man, kind and caring. We loved listening to him tell about his
life as a pilot. May the wonderful memories you have together give you solace in your
time of grief.

Ça va certainement me manquer.
